About Karren
I Choose Home brings those two parts of my experience together. As life changes, an ordinary house can begin limiting someone’s choices. Stairs become harder to manage. Everyday items become difficult to reach. Rooms and routines that once worked well no longer fit the person living there. Sometimes the problem isn’t the person. It’s the house.
I combine professional building and safety experience with certified aging-in-place training to help people understand what is happening and what can be done about it. I do not arrive with a predetermined construction project or tell people how they should live. I listen, evaluate the home, and explain realistic options based on the person’s routines, priorities, and budget.
I recommend. You decide.
I began working with older adults as a nurse’s aide when I was 14. That experience stayed with me and shaped the way I think about independence, dignity, and the importance of being able to live life on your own terms.
For more than 35 years, I have also worked in facilities, construction, safety, and space planning. My job has always been to look closely at how buildings actually function, identify what is getting in the way, what’s unsafe and develop practical solutions.
